SD Type Bushings
QD bushings are a common bearing type that can be installed easily and quickly. These bushings are flanged apart and tapered to clamp securely to the shaft. They are usually mounted with lock washers and cap screws and have a progressive taper of 3/4 inch per foot. Type QD bushings are easily identified by the letters in the part number. When installing the QD bushing, be sure to install it with a gap between the sprocket hub face and the inner diameter of the sprocket bushing. Its flanges are split over the entire circumference and provide positive clamping on the shaft. Bushings are an excellent choice for applications that require clamping force and are interchangeable between manufacturers. They can be used on pulleys, sprockets, and pulleys. For ease of installation, QD bushings are available in half-inch to one-inch sizes.
How to Install a QD Bushing
Installing QD bushings is relatively simple and requires the same procedures to be followed as other types of bearings. QD bushings should be clean and free of oil or anti-seize lubricants. Next, place the bushing on the shaft with the flange end up. Then, position the sprocket on the bushing and align the big end with the bushing. Tighten the bolts to the desired torque, remembering that fully tightening the screws will result in premature failure. After that, drill the holes and insert the pull-up bolts into the bushings.
QD bushings are split tapered flanged bushings with a flange connecting the bushing to the shaft. These bushings are used in applications such as sprockets, pulleys, and pulleys. They are interchangeable between manufacturers and have excellent clamping force. QD bushings are also used in a wide range of industrial environments. A typical QD bushing is 4 degrees in diameter and has two cap screws. Another type of QD bushing is “solder on adapter”. Designed for use in rotating units, this bushing has a straight outer diameter for easy installation and removal.

Dismounting
Bushings serve many different purposes, including vibration isolation, shock absorption, and thermal shock absorption. While the sleeve provides the interface between the two components, its primary role is to dampen the energy transmitted through it. Some of the most common bushing types are listed below:
When your car bushings wear out, they will allow the joints to move more freely than they should. When driving over rough terrain, you may hear a popping sound, or you may notice that the steering wheel feels loose or floating. In addition to this, your car’s steering and suspension components may be unstable. These are signs that you need to replace the bushings on your car. However, if you don’t want to spend the time and money to replace the entire suspension, consider replacing the bushings.
Standard Mounting
1. Make sure the cone on the bushing and the inside of the driven product is clean and free of oil or any anti-seize lubricant.
2. Slide QD bushing on a shaft, flange end first, then assemble key.
3. Place the QD bushing on the shaft. Use only a standard Allen key to tighten the set screw on the key (hand-tight). Don’t push too hard.
4. Slide the large end of the sprocket or other part taper hole into place over the cone, aligning the drilled bolt holes on the sprocket or other part with the taper holes in the bushing flange. Then assemble the pull-up bolt and lock washer.
5. Tighten the pull-up bolts alternately and evenly to the tightening levels shown in the torque table below. Do not use extensions on wrench handles. There should now be a gap between the face of the sprocket or other part hub and the flange of the QD bushing to ensure a satisfactory tapered grip and press fit.
