Plastic Bevel Gears
This type of gear(Plastic Bevel Gears) has a conical shape with straight or spiral-cut teeth. Plastic bevel gears transfer motion between two axles that are intersecting, changing the rotation axis. These types of gear are mostly utilized in power tools and automotive applications. On all designs, the spiral cut version can be smoother and less noisy than other designs.
The positive characteristics of plastic bevel gear include being lightweight, non-rusting, quiet, injection molding enabling low cost and large production, and able to operate without lubrication by mating with metal gears. On the other hand, low strength, tendency to hold heat, large dimensional change including backlash compared to metal, etc., are some of the points requiring caution.

Plastic Bevel Gears Features
- The teeth on bevel gears can be straight, spiral, or hypoid. Straight bevel gear teeth have the same problem as straight spur gear teeth — as each tooth engages, it impacts the corresponding tooth all at once.
- Just like with spur gears, the solution to this problem is to curve the gear teeth. These spiral teeth engage like helical teeth: the contact starts at one end of the gear and progressively spreads across the whole tooth.
