What are the symptoms of a damaged bushing?
In terms of insulation, the W-sleeve consists of two layers. The outermost layer consists of porcelain. The innermost insulation system consists of concentric capacitors. The outermost layer consists of several layers and is used for electrical testing. Although this is a solid insulation system, it requires extensive metal fittings and flexible seals. It is recommended for voltages of 26 kV or lower.
Changes in PF indicate that moisture has penetrated and degraded the casing. Also, if the PF value doubles, replace the bushing . Another degradation indicator is the change in capacitance, measured in milligrams (pF). A 10% increase from its nameplate value indicates that the bushing needs to be replaced. So, what are the symptoms of a damaged W bushing?
Hot Loop Test: This test is performed on the bushing to evaluate its ability to conduct current. Using a conductive ring around the porcelain, the test can determine if the dielectric loss has occurred through the sleeve. It can also detect cracked porcelain, deteriorated cement joints, gasket leaks, and faults within the condenser layers. Additionally, this test checks the oil level in the oil-filled bushing.
