8B Gripbelt Sheaves with Split Taper Bushings
8B series pulleys(8B Gripbelt Sheaves with Split Taper Bushings) are manufactured for A, AX, AA, 4L, B, BX, BB, and 5L v-belts, ranging from 7.35″ to 38.35″ in diameter. Depending on the pulley size, they are made to use with Q2, R2, or S1 taper bushings, which we also stock. Most of our eight-groove 8B split taper bushed pulleys are manufactured from a high-strength grade 35 cast iron, are phosphate-coated, and are painted for anti-corrosion. All of them are balanced at the factory for smooth machinery operation.

Types of V-Belt Pulleys
Several types of pulleys are working in v-belt transmissions, each with a different implementation. Occasionally flat-belt pulleys are suitable when the back side of the v-belt is working to rotate the pulley in the opposite direction of the driven pulley, as commonly employed with ribbed v-belts.
- Standard pulleys have dimensions with one or multiple grooves, which mate with classic, small-engine, and hexagonal-style v-belts.
- Companion pulleys contain integral spokes which run radially on the pulley. This produces a high strength-to-weight ratio advantageous to fractional horsepower pulleys.
- Idler pulleys are working solely as belt tensioners in many v-belt drives but play an essential part in maintaining the tension required to drive the transmission. Idler pulleys reduce belt service life and the efficiency of the drive. Still, they are necessary for communications where the industry must clear obstructions, or the driven pulley does not maintain a good arc of contact with the v-belt to transmit torque. Idlers can interact with the wedged or flat side of the v-belt since no torque is required to be transferred to this axle.
- Variable speed pulleys have a variable pitch that adjusts the driven RPM, often within a range represented as a percentage. These pulleys are also helpful for maintaining belt tension for dynamic loads.
- Step pulleys have two or more non-adjustable grooves with different pitches around the same shaft. These pulleys change the speed ratio of the transmission.
