Fluid Couplings

Fluid Couplings consist of two parts: the turbine and the pump. There are also blades inside, which are placed at an angle. The pump is mounted on the drive shaft end, while the turbine is on the driven shaft. When fluid enters the pump, the drive shaft rotates under the action of centrifugal force. When you add a reactor, it becomes a torque converter. Its main uses are industrial and marine applications.

Types of Fluid Couplings

Several fluid coupling types are available on the market. They are used in the automobile industry, marine and railroad industry, oil and gas industry, water and waste treatment, construction, and industrial applications.
These couplings are used to transfer torque between two shafts. These couplings are based on the hydro-kinetic principles. They are made up of parts such as a runner, casing, impeller, and a seal. They are also referred to as “rotor” or “spindle.”

SELECTION:
Without special requirements, the following technical data sheet and power chart are used to select the proper size of fluid coupling with oil medium according to the power transmitted and the speed of the motor,e, i, the input of the fluid coupling.
When ordering, please specify the dimensions of the shaft ends of the motor and driven machine(or reducer), including diameter, tolerance or fit of the shafts(if no tolerance or fit is specified, the bores will be machined th H7), fit length of the shafts, width, and depth of the keys (of notice the standard No.enforced). For ordering the fluid couplings with belt pulley, brake pulley or other special requirements, please state the technical data in detail.YOXz is a coincidence machine with a moving wheel which is in the output point of the coincidence machine and is connected with an elastic axle connecting machine (plum blossom type elastic axle connecting machine or elastic pillar axle-connecting machine or even the axle-connecting machine designated by customers). Usually there are 3 connection types.
YOXz is inner wheel driver which has a tight structure and the smallest axle size. The fittings of YOXz have a wide usage and simple structure and the size of it has basically been unified in the trade. The connection style of YOXz is that the axle size of it is longer but it is unnecessary to move the electromotive machine and decelerating machine. Only demolishing the weak pillar, and connected spiral bolt can unload the coincidence machine, so it is extremely convenient. The customer must offer the size of the electromotive machine axle (d1 L1) and decelerating machine axle (d2 L2). The wheel size (Dz Lz C) in the table is just for reference; the actual size is decided by customers.

Attention: the smallest size Dp belt tray can do the largest size the dl axle hole can do YOXp type is a connection style of belt tray with hydraulic coincidence machine. The electromotive machine (or decelerating machine) axle directly inserts in the axle hole of the coincidence machine, which is suitable for equipment transported by belt.The customer must supply the connection size of the electromotive machine axle (d1 L1) and the detailed specification and size of the belt tray.
YOXm is one that the axle of decelerating machine directly inserts in the axle hole of coincidence machine and the electromotive machine point ML(GB5272-85) connects with plum blossom type elastic axle connecting machine. It is reliable connected and has simple structure, the smallest axle size which is a common connection type in current small coincidence machine.
Customer must supply the size of electromotive machine axle (d1 L1) and decerating machine axle (d2 L2) as shown in the picture, others if customer do not supply, we will manufacture according to the sizes in the table.

YOXf is a type connected both sides, the axle size of which is longer. But it has simple structure and it is more easy and convenient for fixing and amending (unnecessary to move the electromotive machine and decelerating machine but only the elastic pillar and connecting spiral bolt can unload the coincidence machine).
The relevant elastic axle connecting machine, connecting size and outer size is basically the same with YOXe type.

Applications of Fluid Couplings

Fluid Coupling uses in belt conveyors, scraper conveyors, and conveyors of all kinds Bucket elevators, ball mills, hoisters, crushers, excavators, mixers, straighteners, cranes, etc.
Using fluid couplings for power transmission offers several advantages. These include energy savings, overload protection, smooth acceleration, and torsional isolation. These advantages are useful for a variety of applications. In particular, they are used in heavy industry.
Fluid couplings are also used in marine applications. They are also found in large ventilators, mixers, and boiler feed pumps. Using these devices can increase the life of your equipment. They are also helpful for reducing downtime.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Fluid Couplings

Several advantages and disadvantages of hydrodynamic fluid couplings can be discussed. For one, the fluid drive coupling may limit the torque transmitted by the motor. This is because the output torque of a motor will be limited when the input and output angular velocities are the same.
The other advantage of fluid coupling is that it offers mechanical shock absorption. This is especially important in applications where shock loads are present. For example, conveyors used in mines move hundreds of tons of material per day. If the load becomes too high, there may be increased wear and tear on the drive assembly.
Another advantage of the fluid coupling is that it offers soft starting. This can reduce the stress on the machine, as well as prevent it from breaking. A fluid coupling can also be used to transmit the maximum torque possible.
However, the disadvantage of the fluid coupling is that it may require more maintenance. This includes checking the fluid in the coupling and the parts. The manufacturer may also recommend adjusting the viscosity. The fluid used in a fluid coupling may vary depending on the load, the operating condition, and the fluid casing.

Fluid Coupling VS Torque Converter

Whether a fluid coupling or torque converter is the right choice depends on many factors. For example, if a torque converter is under-filled, it will not be able to transmit the full torque to the wheels.
Another factor that affects the efficiency of a fluid coupling is the slippage that it experiences under load. This slippage is a significant loss of efficiency. During stop-and-go driving, for instance, a torque converter will usually operate in the least efficient range. This can be damaging to fuel economy.
A torque converter, on the other hand, is more efficient at low speeds. Its efficiency increases as the input and output shaft speeds increase. However, it is not efficient at highway speeds. It cannot achieve the same efficiency as a fluid coupling.
The efficiency of a fluid coupling will also be affected by the shape of the turbine blades. Minor variations in the shape of the blades can cause a significant change in the converter’s performance.
The torque converter also produces a mechanical advantage that is similar to gear multiplication. However, the torque converter cannot achieve a 100% power transmission efficiency. It also has an extra element, known as a stator. The stator is an additional part that helps direct the flow of fluid.
