P3 Split Taper Bushing
This type of bushing(P3 Split Taper Bushings) has many advantages, including the ability to reduce wear on the shaft. First, the split tapered bushings are designed for cast iron bushing hole pulleys. You can find them on the same page as the pulleys. Split tapered bushings are suitable for shafts up to 1 3/8″. Whether you need them for small or large applications, these split tapered bushings are the best choice.
The split tapered bushing is made of tough malleable iron with two indestructible keys on the shaft and hub. Their high torque and true concentric grips make them ideal for transmission components. As the name suggests, these bushings can be adjusted to fit various shaft sizes. And, because they’re made of two different sheets of steel, they’re easy to find.

Advantages of Split Taper Bushings
The main advantage of using split tapered bushings over standard tapered bushings is the ease of installation and removal. Split tapered bushings take up less space in space-constrained designs than standard bushings. However, this single-use device often breaks during installation, which means it’s only good for one use. Additionally, it requires hammering the large end of the bushing to remove it from the drive part, which can cause the drive part to fall off the rotating shaft.
Another benefit of split tapered bushings is their ability to work in tighter spaces. In contrast to flat washers, split tapered bushings do not require anti-seize or grease to function properly. They also don’t offer the same level of protection as split gaskets. Therefore, when selecting a split tapered bushing, be sure to carefully measure the space where the bushing will be installed before tightening the screws.
The flange-to-flange clearance of the split tapered bushing is another advantage. When installing the split taper, it must be ensured that the holes are drilled correctly. If the flange size is smaller than the bearing bore, it is better to use a split taper sleeve. It also prevents vibration while reducing friction, which is essential for smooth operation.
Installation
1. Make sure the bushing cone and interior of the driven product are clean and free of anti-seize lubricant.
2. Place the bushing into the sprocket or other part type that accepts bushings.
3. Loosely place the cap screws into the pull-up holes. The bushing remains loose to ensure a slip fit on the shaft.
4. Using the key on the shaft, slide the sprocket or other part type to the desired position on the shaft. Make sure the heads of the cap screws are accessible.
5. Align the sprockets or part types, alternately and incrementally tighten the screws until they are taut. Do not use extensions on the wrench handle, and do not allow sprockets or parts to be pulled out and contact the bushing flange. There should be a gap between the bushing flange and the sprocket at this point to ensure that the gap does not close.
Removal
1. Loosen and remove cap screws.
2. Insert the cap screws into the threaded removal holes.
3. Tighten the inserted screws until the sprocket or other part type is loose on the shaft.
4. Remove sprocket/part type from the shaft.
