SS 2525 Stainless Steel Taper Lock Bushing
You may have heard of tapered locking bushings(2525 Taper Lock Bushing), but what exactly do they do? The term “taper lock” is used to describe a type of bushing with different lengths and tapers. These types of bushings have an octave taper. In addition to being made of steel, these bushings have a black oxide coating for extra protection. They are a common choice for a variety of uses.
Taper-Lock bushings are sized by their four-digit size. The first two digits represent the maximum aperture and the last two digits are the length. For example, a 1.5″ hole requires a 1-1/2″ diameter bushing. The same applies to metric bore diameters, where metric dimensions are denoted by “MM”. When choosing a Taper-Lock bushing, it is important to remember that the correct hub size is essential to ensure proper installation.
One type of tapered bushing is commonly used in ceiling lights, and they are usually mounted on shafts and pulleys. These flangeless bushings are separate for pulley installation. Due to their split design, they are usually screwed down. Tapered bushings also have excellent clamping force, which is why they are so popular in high torque applications.

Taper Lock Bushing Installation Instructions
Before installing a tapered locking bushing, it is important to know how to install it properly. These instructions will give you the correct technique for proper installation. Here’s a quick overview of the process. If you haven’t completed this process before, follow these instructions to get started. Following these steps, you will have the tapered locking bushing properly installed. Otherwise, you may damage your product.
Tapered QD-style interchangeable bushings are designed for the highest torque capacity and provide flexible installation. Bushings are available with metric and imperial bores and come with set screws and counterweights. The dual adjustment tensioner has a long slot in the base that allows full 360-degree rotation of the idler. The tapered fit on the dual adjusters holds it securely in place. Follow the drive type’s installation instructions before installing the tapered locking bushing.
When assembling the tapered locking bushing, keep the keyway and hole dimensions in mind. Large hole keyholes may require a shallow key holder. Lubricate the casing. Use split washers instead of flat washers. Using a flat washer does not provide the same protection and is not compatible with threaded holes in the bushing.
First, install the shaft key. Next, insert the bushing. It is important to locate the bushing so that the tapered end mates with the shaft. Then, install the set screw on the key and tighten it to prevent the bushing from sliding back. After finishing the shaft, align the pulley with the threaded holes for the pulley and bushing.
