Taper Lock Pulleys SPZ-8
What is Taper Lock Pulley?
Taper lock pulley(Taper Lock Pulleys SPZ-8) permits incompetent work to accomplish coupling of pulleys and psychologist fit on shafts utilizing a hexagon wrench. A taper lock pulley will be a pulley that is made sure about to a pivoting shaft with a tightened center point. It has a course of action of longitudinal split tapered and half-strung gaps that give simple, quick fitting, and excellent hold. The taper lock pulley is a favored decision when the supreme arrangement between pulleys is beyond the realm of imagination.

Taper Lock Pulley Specification
We provide a full range of European standard V-belt pulleys (SPZ, spa, SPB, SPC). These are available from stock. In addition to these profiles, other types of V-belt pulleys with clamping bushes are also available.
V-belt pulleys are usually made from cast iron (GG) and steel. If required for specific applications, it is also possible to manufacture these components from aluminum, stainless steel, or plastic material. There is also the option of supplying V-belt pulleys with an additional surface treatment if the ambient conditions require this of the drive. Furthermore, V-belt pulleys can be manufactured to customer specifications. In our turning shop, we can machine standard pulleys based on drawings or customer wishes.

In order to supplement our wide range of belts, we also manufacture and supply a series of standard and customized pulleys for our V-belts and timing belts. Our pulley groove is made of cast iron or steel, which is cut by machine, with high precision, static or dynamic balance (depending on its size) reaching q6.3 level or higher, and circumferential (RIM) speed up to 40m / s.
All pulleys provided by Power-trans are made of high-quality, dense grain gg25 gray cast iron or steel and then phosphate. Metric timing pulleys are also available from lightweight aluminum alloys with natural surfaces.
Shaft fixing options vary according to size and the wide range of available materials, but as a standard, the range of pulleys includes taper holes, guide holes, or two types of holes.

Taper Lock Pulley Installation
The installation of the taper lock pulley is an essential factor affecting the overall service life, which needs excellent carefulness. The following is a complete safety guide. As the two composed parts of the European standard pulley, the taper sleeve and the pulley also have a sequence during installation.
- Put the pulley on the motor shaft first, and put it aside, then use a screwdriver to slightly expand the clamping seam of the taper sleeve, insert the taper sleeve into the motor shaft, and afterward, insert the critical shaft into the corresponding keyway.
- Pull the pulley back, fitting with the tapered sleeve, and align the position of the screw holes. Please note that there are different installation methods for the pulleys with various diameters, and the screw will be with 3 or 5 holes.
- After the position of the screw holes is aligned one by one, screw in the screws, then start the motor after fixing all the screws. Stop the machine after running for 1 to 3 minutes at low speed, and tighten the screws again to complete the pulley installation.
Installation reminder: when there are three screw holes, the holes corresponding to the clamping seam are disassembly holes, no need to screw in the screws; and among the five screw holes, the two screw holes that form an equilateral triangle with the clamping seam are disassembly holes, no need to screw in screw either.
Taper Lock Pulley Removal
The removal of European standard pulleys is more straightforward than that of national standard and American standard pulleys. Prepare an Allen wrench, a rubber hammer, and a puller for larger pulleys.
- Unscrew all the screws on the mounting holes
- Take 1-2 screws and screw them into the disassembly holes. If it is difficult to screw in, add lubricating oil or gently tap the surface of the pulley with a rubber hammer to separate the pulley from the taper sleeve.
- Push the pulley out after separation, and then disassemble the taper sleeve
- Twist in the clamping seam with a screwdriver, and remove the taper sleeve after it becomes loose.
The Difference Between V-belt Pulley and Timing Belt Pulley
V-belt Pulley
Named for tapered pulley sides that form a V-shaped groove, V-Belt Pulleys are transmission belts that transmit an engine’s force to ancillary components, including alternators, hydraulic pumps, etc. Due to their relatively low-cost, V-Belt Pulleys are a popular option.
As standard, V-belt pulleys are available in undrilled, pre-drilled, or clamping bush variants. The clamping bush variant, also known as a taper or taperlock variant, is always used in combination with the associated clamping bush. The undrilled and pre-drilled variants must first be provided with a borehole and possibly with a keyway and a threaded hole. The most common types of V-belt pulleys are SPZ, SPA, SPB, and SPC. They are stocked in both standard and clamping bush variants.
Timing Belt Pulley
A timing belt pulley is a specialized pulley system with teeth or pockets along the outside of the pulley body’s diameter. Like traditional pulley systems, timing belt pulleys are driven by frictional forces between the belt and pulley surfaces. The teeth or pockets outside the pulley are not used for power transmission. Instead, they engage the pulley belt, assisting with timing and averting misalignment.
Timing belt pulleys are utilized when two shafts must be precisely linked for homogeneous rotation. Most traditional power transmission belts and pulleys are smooth, without teeth or pockets. The smooth belt can sometimes slip off the track, causing one shaft to turn while the other sits dormant. Timing belt pulleys eliminate this concern as teeth or pockets keep the pulley firmly attached to the belt during operation.
Taper Lock Pulley Production Process
A taper lock pulley manufacturing process includes the following steps:
Forming a pulley: integrally forming a cylindrical pulley blank;
machining V-belt grooves: cutting the external surface of the pulley blank to form a plurality of V-belt grooves matching a V belt;
Fine machining: cutting the external surface of the pulley blank and the side surfaces of the belt grooves and cutting off a machining allowance;
Shot blasting: Place the pulley in a shot blasting machine to form a rough shot blasting layer on the side surfaces of the V-belt grooves. The pulley manufactured through the above process has a high friction coefficient on the side surfaces of the belt grooves. It, therefore, has the advantage of preventing slippage and having high transmission efficiency.
