Common Faults and Causes of Worm Gear Reducer
1. Heat and oil leak of reducer. To improve efficiency, the worm gear reducer generally uses non-ferrous metal as worm gear, and the worm uses hard steel. Due to the sliding friction drive, more heat will be generated during operation, which makes the thermal expansion difference between the parts of the reducer and the seals, form a gap in the mating surface, and the lubricating oil becomes thinner due to the force—temperature rise, easy to cause leakage. There are four main reasons for this situation. First, the collocation of materials is not reasonable; Second, the quality of meshing friction surface is poor; 3. Incorrect selection of lubricating oil addition quantity;
2. Worm gear wear. The worm gear is generally made of tin bronze. The matching worm material is hardened to HRC4555 with 45 steel or HRC5055 with 40Cr and then ground to a roughness of Ra0.8μm with a worm grinder. Reducers wear slowly in regular operation; some reducers can be used for more than ten years. If the wear rate is fast, it is necessary to consider whether the selection is correct, whether the overload and the material, assembly quality, or use environment of the worm gear.
3. Worm-bearing damage. In case of failure, even if the gearbox is well sealed, it is often found that the gear oil in the gearbox is emulsified, and the bearing is rusted, corroded, and damaged. This is because after the reducer runs for some time, the gear oil temperature rises, and the condensate generated after cooling is mixed with water. Of course, it is also closely related to bearing quality and the assembly process.
